This drug is prescribed by physicians for the treatment of chronic paranoid and hallucinatory-paranoid conditions, the state of psychomotor agitation in schizophrenia, alcoholic psychosis, manic agitation, mental disorders in epilepsy, depression in patients with presenile psychosis, as well as other diseases accompanied by excitation, stress; neurological diseases, accompanied by increased muscle tone, vomiting during treatment with antitumor agents and with radiation therapy, prolonged hiccough; itching dermatoses as part of complex therapy: stable pain, including causalgia, sleep disturbances of a sustainable nature. Children usually get the prescription on this remedy to cure schizophrenia, autism.

Thorazine safety information

Among the contraindications - increased sensitivity to chlorpromazine and other components of the pharmaceutical product; liver and/or kidneys insufficiency; progressive systemic diseases of the brain and spinal cord (slow neuroinfections, for example, multiple sclerosis); gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer during exacerbation; myxedema; severe cardiovascular diseases (decompensated heart failure and heart defects, severe myocardial dystrophy, severe arterial hypotension, rheumatic carditis in advanced stages), thromboembolism; late stage of bronchiectasis; glaucoma; urinary retention due to prostatic hyperplasia, stroke, acute period of craniocerebral trauma; cholelithiasis and urolithiasis; acute infectious diseases; severe central nervous system depression, coma, brain trauma, concomitant use with barbiturates, alcohol, drugs.

Thorazine side effects

From the side of the vision: with prolonged use in high dosages, the deposition of chlorpromazine in the anterior structures of the eye (cornea and lens) is possible, which can accelerate the processes of normal lens aging.

From the side of the CNS: akathisia, blurred vision; rarely - dystonic extrapyramidal reactions, parkinsonian syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, thermoregulation disorders, ZNS; in rare cases, convulsions.

From the side of the cardiovascular system: possible arterial hypotension (especially with iv introduction), tachycardia.

Among dermatological reactions: rarely skin pigmentation, photosensitization.

Among allergic reactions: skin rash, itching; rarely - exfoliative dermatitis, erythema multiforme.

From the side of the digestive system: possible dyspeptic phenomena (with oral administration); rarely - cholestatic jaundice.

On the part of the endocrine system: menstrual disorders, impotence, gynecomastia, weight gain.

From the side of the urinary system: difficulty urinating (rarely).

From the side of the hemopoietic system: leukopenia, agranulocytosis (rarely).

On the part of the respiratory system: nasal congestion.
