Drug Uses

Sinequan is a CNS stimulant providing anxiolytic and antidepressant effects. The drug is used to control episodes of depressive disorders, particularly when the patient requires sedation. Sinequan capsules are used to control psychoneurotic reactions of varying severity in the patients with:

• Somatic disorders
• Alcoholism
• Bipolar affective disorder
• Involutional depression or melancholia
• Physiological change in tissues or organs

An antidepressant effect of Sinequan is supplemented by antihistaminergic, anticholinergic, and antiserotonergic effects. This should be taken into consideration in indication and changing of the individual daily dosage of Sinequan.

To manage anxiety and/ or depression, from 75 to 150 mg of Sinequan should be taken per day (maximum 300 mg). If mental disorders are mild and not worsening to more serious conditions, one or two 25mg capsules of Sinequan per day are enough.

Missed dose

If you did not take Sinequan at the usual time, and it is nearly time for the next administration of the anxiolytic drug, the dose should be skipped. Do not take a double dose and extra anxiolytics, to make up for the missed dose of Sinequan.

More Information

An optimal antidepressant effect is achieved within 14-21 days after the beginning of the Sinequan-therapy. An anti-anxiety effect of Sinequan is achieved within 14 days after the anxiolytic therapy is started.

Storage

Conditions for Sinequan storage: the antidepressant should be kept at room temperature not exceeding 30ºC, protected from strong light.

Warnings

During application of Sinequan capsules, the risk of adverse psychotic manifestations remains high till full remission. Any side effects, including of the central nervous system, should be carefully controlled till improvement of the patient’s psychological health.

Sinequan Side Effects

Sinequan is generally well tolerated and any adverse effects quickly disappear in long-term application. The most common adverse effects of the antidepressant are: somnolence, low blood pressure, tachyarrhythmia, dry mouth, costiveness, seizures, itch, nausea, vomiting, weakness or shivering.Less commonly, such adverse effects of Sinequan are reported as: blurred vision, confusion, disorientation, paresthesia, tingling, hyperhidrosis, eosinophilia, tachycardia, palpitations, indigestion, weight gain, impotence, menstrual irregularity, or urinary retention.
